KOMMI me ana Taipō - Friday, 15 November - 8pm
Venue
Errick’s 218 Crawford St, Dunedin
KOMMI is a non-binary solo music artist, recording and performance collaborator, writer, poet, swampwitch, and a lecturer in Māori and Indigenous Studies and Te Reo Māori, based in Ōhinehou-Lyttelton, Christchurch. Their Witch-Hop / Swamp-Hop music is all delivered in te reo Kāi Tahu, the dialect of the largest iwi within Te Waipounamu.
KOMMI is most known for their discombobulating stage shows with a full live witch-hop and funk/jazz band along with their onstage spooks and supernatural beings. Largely spiritual, partly chill, partly hyper, and somewhat theatrical in places, this is a one-time show not to be missed. It will creep up on you and carry you through a philosophical reconciliation with KOMMI’s own personal taipō (spooks, goblins, ghosts).
KOMMI’s music retains a unique indigenous Kāi Tahu world view in which they explore kaupapa such as being haunted, whaiwhaiā (witchcraft) and tūrehu (faerie-like people), also visions of death and escapism, and cautionary tales to not be careless with one's words. They also perform songs about being hōhā – with many things, including the current government - and songs about the pigs (da piggymana).
KOMMI’s new EP ‘TAUWHENUA’ is a collaboartive effort with aclaimed producer Infectiouss, which consists of exquisitely spooky and spellbinding te reo Māori rap songs.
Ekari ekari! Eaoia!
ŌTEPOTI Hip Hop Hustle - Saturday, 16 November - 3pm till late.
Venue
Errick’s 218 Crawford St, Dunedin
The hustle makes a valiant return to rock the South for it’s 5th official festival after skipping 2023 due to Jonny’s baby brain. OHHH will be held at Erricks Venue on Saturday 16th November, and it is going to be a cracker. The line up this year is impressive to say the least, and the 4 Elements will be bouncing about plus much much more. Once again, we have alienesque Graffiti Artists spraying up a storm. We have dynamic, swiftly moving Hip-Hop Dancers and collar-pop-lockin’ Breakdancers. We have a huuuge line up of hungry MC’s ready to rip shreds off the microphone. Last but not least, you wouldn’t want to be the turntables on this momentous day, because they will be getting slapped silly all day.
Youth Workshops will also be on offer in each of the 4 Elements. Head on over to the Workshops page to register for these.
